IWSO: Empowering Immigrant and Racialized Women Through Technology
Project Overview
Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) is a community-based organization that has been supporting immigrant and racialized women for over 40 years. Their mission is to provide opportunities for women to integrate into society, rebuild lives free of violence, and achieve personal goals. Every year, IWSO serves over 2,000 women and children with the help of dedicated staff and volunteers.
For the past 16 years, Xacent Global has been a trusted partner, providing a wide range of services from software development to comprehensive managed IT support. Most recently, we led a critical infrastructure overhaul, migrating IWSO’s operations from a legacy system to a fully cloud-based infrastructure. This transition was essential in modernizing their technology environment to better serve their clients and sustain long-term growth.
Development Highlights
- Cloud Infrastructure Migration: We successfully migrated IWSO’s systems and data from legacy, on-premises servers to a cloud-based infrastructure, leveraging industry-leading platforms to ensure scalability, flexibility, and security.
- Data Security & Privacy Compliance: As IWSO deals with sensitive client information, we ensured all data was securely transferred, with encryption and backup protocols in place to meet compliance with privacy regulations.
- Virtualization & Remote Access: Implemented virtualization solutions to provide staff and volunteers with remote access to the system, enabling secure and efficient work from any location, which proved especially valuable during the pandemic.
- Managed IT Services: We continue to provide ongoing IT support and monitoring, keeping IWSO’s infrastructure up to date with the latest software updates, security patches, and best practices in cybersecurity.
Best Practices Implemented
- Scalability: Built a cloud-based infrastructure that can easily adapt to the growing needs of the organization.
- Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery: Established robust backup solutions and a disaster recovery plan to ensure data integrity and minimal downtime in case of unexpected events.
- Cybersecurity Best Practices: Integrated advanced firewall, anti-virus, and monitoring solutions to protect IWSO’s network and data from cyber threats.
Outcome
The cloud migration and continued IT management have empowered IWSO to operate more efficiently, reduce downtime, and better serve their clients. The modernized infrastructure provides a secure, scalable environment that supports IWSO’s mission and growth as they continue to assist immigrant and racialized women in the community.
